Michael Alexiou, M.D.Michael Alexiou, M.D. — Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery

Dr. Alexiou is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Alexiou received his undergraduate education at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, graduating Magna cum laude with a B.A. in Biology. His research focused on electrophysiology in neurobiology. Afterwards, he attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. He graduated with highest distinction, and was elected as a junior year inductee to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. A part of his medical education included a 3-month sabbatical practicing tropical medicine in Kenya. Subsequently, he was accepted and completed a general surgery internship and a residency in the Head and Neck Surgery-Otolaryngology residency program at the University of Arkansas. His research focused on advanced chemoradiotherapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. During these five years of training, Dr. Alexiou had the privilege to serve as chief resident at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Following completion of his residency training and prior to entering private practice, Dr. Alexiou was tested nationally against all other residents in training, and ranked in the top 1%. He has been in private practice in Harrisonburg, Virginia, since 2001. His clinical interests focus on endoscopic sinus surgery, skin cancer excision and repair, hearing disorders and hearing restoration surgery.



Kristin Sewall, Ph.D.Kristin Sewall, Ph.D. — Audiologist

Dr. Sewall is our resident audiologist. She earned her doctorate at James Madison University, and she holds Virginia State Licenses in Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing. She is also a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association. Dr. Sewall administers hearing test and determines whether or not a patient might benefit from hearing aids. She provides answers to patients and their families for their questions regarding hearing loss, hearing amplification and assistive listening devices.
